70s Chic

Taking a break from packing… ran out of boxes! Have at least 11 full of pictures or picture frames. So after 2 hours of paperwork this morning, we are officially homeowners! Jason sanded the kitchen cabinets while I was at work and tried to mow the yard. (He is such a good man!) When we first looked at the house, the yard was so cute, now it is completely over grown. (The house has been empty for at least 2 months.) Here are some “before” pictures for you to ponder…

Georgia Aquarium

I’ve been promising pictures from the honeymoon… I had fully intended in posting them in chronological order, but in the midst of packing and unpacking, it will take me awhile to get to everything. These are pictures from the Georgia Aquarium, open since January. It is supposedly the largest in the world. It was hard to tell how big it actually was because it was SO crowded. There were people everywhere. Once, my dad shouted, “leak” just to get people to move out of our way! Regardless, we were thankful to get tickets for Jason and I, my parents, his parents, Grandpa Beyer, Rahn and Kat. We went the Monday after the GA reception. I liked the “tunnel” walkway best. As you go through, the fish are on both sides and above you. What a place!

Home Owners

We close on our house this Thursday, June 22nd! We'll be married 2 months to the day (and it is G&G Treptow's wedding anniversary). Neither of us are packed... yet! I get to move in this weekend, Jason, the weekend after. I think he is worried I'll go crazy decorating, i.e. paint the walls lime green, or something like that before he moves in! (J/K, we all know one of the rooms will be purple!)
As for the blog... should I "back-post" pictures from the honeymoon or call it good? I'm so far behind at work, at home, with life in general! I'm not even done with thank you notes! (Big apology on that one, esp. if you haven't received one yet!) But, if there is a market for them... it will give me a reason to sit down and pick my favorites! I'll let you decide.

Treptow Family Farm

Here are some pictures from Memorial weekend and the family farm (southern MN). My mother grew up here with her parents, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Three bedrooms and one bath, I can’t imagine what that must have been like! Eating in shifts, feeding and milking the cows, picking up chicken eggs, helping Grandma in the garden, smelly pigs, itchy hay, oh the life. Oh the memories.

Grandpa and his new puppy, Duke.

Me and 2nd cousin Sadie (she was helping me take pictures).

Another Weekend in Wyoming

Friday I changed my name. I am now officially Teresa Lynn Sherwood, despite my best intentions to incorporate my maiden name, or change it completely! I also spent the day returning ties to various stories throughout the mall. Jason had a hard time deciding, ok, we both did, which tie he should wear for the wedding. So we ended up with a lot of options that needed to be returned! I also spent a boatload of Target gift cards (thanks everyone) on stuff for the kitchen and bathroom. My trunk was full!!!

Sat. Jason helped teach a boater safety class and then we spent the rest of the day patrolling. We had two very exciting encounters. One with a deer, the other, a drunk. (I’ll let Jason fill you in on the drunken boater, who is in jail now). There is a very small island in the middle of the lake where this deer goes to have her babies. While we were out, we spotted the deer swimming about 150 yards out from the island. (Left of the boat)

Then we noticed why. A family had parked their boat on the island and their four dogs had scared the deer away. They had a talking to while the deer made it all the way on shore (opposite of the island by about 300 yards) where there were plenty of campers to greet her. We are hoping, after the weekend, things will calm down and she’ll swim back out.

This picture was taken when Jason was assisting in the arrest of the drunken boater. It just goes to show; we are all apart of a bigger whole. Moments of peace, joy, chaos, fear, etc can happen all at once, in one scene, and we may only notice a fraction of what is taking place. Do you think those geese even notice the rainbow behind them or care that it is there? It made me wonder if God created all this beauty just for us. (For us to enjoy since I doubt the geese would stop and say, “Gee, a rainbow, isn’t that swell?”) My comment for the day: Let’s do our best to take care of the things God has entrusted us with.

Passing of a Saint

My grandmother passed away last Wed. The funeral was Sat. in Wells, MN. It was a time of mixed emotions, sadness along with joy in seeing so many relatives. (It had been 6 years since I'd been to the farm). Below is a beautiful eulogy written by my Aunt Amy. (If I can get my computer at home to work, I'll post pictures from the weekend.)

Norma Lillian was born to Edwin and Martha Zabel June 10, 1927 in Minnesota Lake Township, Minnesota. One of 4 children, she was raised during the Great Depression. Norma learned the value of saving. She grew up on a farm where she had several daily chores. She told of how her mother would grab a pole and a bucket each morning and went down to a nearby fishing hole to fish for breakfast. Educated until 8th grade, Norma was needed on the farm thereafter.
She thought she was done with farm chores one day when a handsome Howard Treptow came calling. They’d met at a matinee movie shortly before. After a brief courtship, he proposed to her while she was sitting in the barn milking cows. He said, “Marry me and you’ll never have to milk another cow!” – Howard lied. Norma was happy though. Shortly after getting married Howard and Norma moved to the farm where they resided for the past 50+ years. Soon, a wonderful little boy named Jerry came into their lives. Then another special little guy named Larry. A darling daughter named Linda. A tall baby boy named Mike. A beautiful daughter named Susan. A spunky little girl named Peggy. A strong boy named Keith, and last but not least, a loving baby Chad. These children were Norma’s pride and joy. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than to see them happy. Can you imagine all of the pain, worries, diaper changes, breast-feeding, crying, whining, headaches and heartaches she’s been through? Norma did not have an easy life. But she never complained.
Once the children were grown the grandchildren started to arrive. Soon there were 23 of them as well as 6 greats! “Time goes by faster when you get older,” Norma would say. She’d try to visit as many as possible, “depending on the weather.” - One too many times pushing a car out of a MN snowstorm I guess…
Norma was known for her generosity. She not only donated her time to bake items regularly to serve in church (fellowship hour, bake sales, and funerals), she was available to read passages from the Bible during Ruth Circle and assist with quilt making for over 45 years. When her children were small, she taught Sunday school for every one of them. All of her children graduated from High School. A feat not every mother realizes. Norma told anecdotes of how she’d have to go into town to get the kids from school because of a broken bone, trouble with a teacher, forgotten band shoes, illness, or whatever else she needed to relieve herself with a big sigh from. But she never complained. Norma took everything in stride. Regardless of what was thrown at her, poverty, multiple pregnancies, miscarriage, heart disease, cancer, surgeries, she took it and turned it into something good. We can learn a lot from Norma Lillian. When God made her He not only broke the mold, He shattered it. It’s hard enough to live up to your mother-in-law in the eyes of your husband. Imagine having someone as precious as Norma? She was always kind to whoever was a guest in her home. I don’t recall her ever- speaking ill of anyone who would take the time to come for a visit.
Interestingly enough, Norma had a knack for having something freshly made in the house. Whether it was a pan of bars, zucchini cake, cookies, baked or bar-b-qued chicken, a roast, or a refrigerator dessert, her cooking/baking will surely be missed. She was so proud to have items to offer her family and friends. Norma was also known for never throwing certain things away. Cool-whip bowls and covers, Zip-Lok bags, bread ties, and leftovers, Norma truly knew how to make the most of everything.
Norma didn’t have many luxuries in life. She held her babies instead of putting them in an Exersaucer, she stood at the sink and hand-washed her dishes, she sewed patches on old clothing without asking for anything new for herself. Norma was definitely one-of-a-kind. She provided fresh eggs to others for years through hard work, and she never complained. - How many loved ones and pets have passed on before her? The grief she’d suffered is unimaginable. But in the rush of everyday life, Norma knew how to cope and be truly happy.
Now that she rests with the Lord, we have to be grateful for how Norma Lillian (Zabel) Treptow has touched our lives. Whether she was your neighbor, friend, cousin, aunt, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother or wife, Norma will never be forgotten. We love you and wish the best for you always. Until we see you again in heaven, may the Lord bless you and keep you forever! AmenWith love, Amy Olson-Treptow (5/06)

4 days to go!!!

WOW how the time has flown by! I've been really bad about postings in this last stretch of wedding planning. Things are falling into place...
My mom came out the first of the month to help and we got a lot done! Connie, my bosses' wife, threw me another bridal shower (pictures to come) the same weekend. Thanks everyone for the wonderful gifts! Many thanks to my bridesmaid Nikki for sending a bridal "crown" and sash for me to wear!
Two weekends ago, I went to Casper. Pinched a nerve in my neck which was probably my body telling me to relax and calm down! Spent most of Sat. in bed but did manage to get out on Sunday with Jason. While he was checking fishermen, I took some pictures of the Platte River and surrounding landscape. It was a beautiful day!

4 days to go and I am so excited. Still have some things to cross off my list... but I'll make it (in one piece I'm hoping). I had a dream last night that I was in my dress, ready to walk down the isle and I realized, I forgot to get my hair done!
Can't wait to see everyone. Family and friends: you are the ONLY reason I agreed to a "traditional" wedding, instead of running off! Jason and I are looking foward to sharing this special day with you.

I'm an Auntie!

Ok, so I'm a little behind with this big news... Peyton was born on March 9th to Amanda and Marty, my very good friends from Georgia. He is an angel! Don't you think?!?!

An Auntie and a wife all in one year! Who knew it could get this good?
Still house hunting, keeping busy at work (I've got my first school tour tomorrow, send good thoughts my way, they can smell fear!)

On a side note, I think I should go into the travel agent business. Since it has been so difficult to find a good one in Wyoming… I guess once you're in, you're in and no one sees the point of helping you get out! Last night I sent my friends Marlise and Karl on a fabulous honeymoon to Europe. Hope my honeymoon is this glamorous. Again, send good thoughts our way since Jason and I haven't finalized our plans yet due to the _______ of our first travel agent. (We are now on our fourth!) Ah, the joys of planning a wedding!

What's up from Wyoming

Both my computer and Rocky have been "sick", but seem to be on the mend. (Rocky is very mellow in this picture, and probably be happy to be out of his "cone hat"). As to what we've been up to... Jason and I got our marriage licence today!!! It was so exciting. Jason said the girl behind the counter wanted to puke because we were so "lovey-dovey"! Ahhhh, the joys of being in love!

Last weekend I had a bridal shower in Elk Mountain, thanks to Jason's mom and the lovely ladies from the community. (L to R: Jason's grandmother, Maxine Sherwood, me, Jason's mom Dee, and Aunt Lisa)
Weekend before that, I was in Casper with Jason. We got a call about some "sick" antelope. Never found out why there were so many dead, but just looking made the legislator who called it in very happy.

It was warm for a week!!! In the 50s. So the hike with Jason wasn't so bad. (I'll call these, "weathered landscapes" in honor of my friend Alana who pointed out, weather as a major theme in my photographs).
